5 Non-Healthcare Podcasts for Marketing & Communication Pros

Marketing podcasts have become a leading platform for professional development. Here are a few that make me smarter just about every episode (and make my commute a lot more tolerable).

While we’re big fans of health care-focused pod­casts like Health­care Rap and touch point, it always helps to look at the broad­er mar­ket­ing indus­try for inspi­ra­tion and fresh ideas. 

If you find your­self mired in health­care myopia and curi­ous about how mar­ket­ing lead­ers in retail, tech­nol­o­gy and oth­er seg­ments are build­ing their brands and acquir­ing cus­tomers, here are five pod­casts (in no par­tic­u­lar order) that won’t disappoint.

The Top

Why you should lis­ten: Hear from top entre­pre­neurs about how much they sold last month, how they are sell­ing it and what they are selling—all in rapid-fire, 20-minute inter­views. The pod­cast pro­vides a crash course in finan­cial met­rics like cus­tomer acqui­si­tion costs (CAC), churn rate and oth­er key per­for­mance indicators.

Marketing School

Why you should lis­ten: Get 10 min­utes of action­able mar­ket­ing advice every sin­gle day, espe­cial­ly in regard to dig­i­tal mar­ket­ing tips and trends.

The Tim Ferriss Show

Why you should lis­ten: The best-sell­ing author known for The 4‑Hour Work­week decon­structs world-class per­form­ers from eclec­tic areas (invest­ing, chess, pro sports, etc.), dig­ging deep to find the tools, tac­tics and tricks that lis­ten­ers can use. Warn­ing: Some episodes fea­ture salty language. 

My favorite episode so far: “The 3 Crit­i­cal Rules of Brand­ing” (#269 launched on 10/3/17)

Marketing Over Coffee

Why you should lis­ten: Cov­er­ing both tra­di­tion­al and new mar­ket­ing strate­gies, this week­ly dis­cus­sion is host­ed by John Wall and Christo­pher Penn. Each show is about 20 min­utes long and is filled with the kinds of mar­ket­ing tips and tricks you can only get from casu­al con­ver­sa­tion out­side of the office.

My favorite episode so far: “Lost and Founder by Rand Fishkin” (launched on 4/26/18)

The Turnaround

Why you should lis­ten: Brought to you by mar­ket­ing soft­ware giant Hub­spot and for­mer­ly known as The Growth Show, this is a pod­cast about the com­pa­nies that near­ly shut­tered their doors, but instead … they launched an epic turnaround.
